I will be the first to say that when Square Enix announced a direct sequel to Final Fantasy XIII, I was less than enthused. Of course, I don't think I could ever say their cinematics aren't beautifully rendered. In fact, the beginning of this trailer actually makes the game seem like it will be an exciting story of an eternal, warring struggle through the present and the future. Then at the 3:18 mark, it all goes to hell as J-pop starts playing in the background. On the plus side, it does look like they have done something about Serah's attempts at an accent.
The trailer may be a bit spoiler-ific if you are intending on purchasing this game for whatever story it may or may not have. It does look like the time travel system will be used to add in player choice which will allow for multiple endings. Hopefully it will be a better game than recent Final Fantasy showings, and in Japan it's listed as Famitsu Magazine's most anticipated game.
Final Fantasy XIII-2 will be arriving in North America on January 31, 2012 for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. The game will feature two different theme songs depending on your system. For the 360 it is "New World" by Filipino singer Charise. On the PS3 the theme song is "Yakusoku no Basho" by Mai Fukui.
How important is it that I play the first one?....couldnt get through it

Most likely fairly important if you want the story to make sense. I couldn't get through the first either. It hurt.

to be fair you would be better just to watch all the cinematic's on youtube or something because as much as I didn't dislike the game per-say i couldn't sit through it it a second time and if you couldn't finish it the first time just get the general jist of the story and what happened from videos
