What if the Halo series received the pseudo documentary feature of Band of Brothers? It would probably look a little something like HALO: The Fallen. This fan film was created using a budget of less than $200 (the team already had some materials on hand), and released on YouTube on March 9.
The synopsis is pretty simple: a veteran recounts his first encounter with the Covenant during the Human-Covenant war. The video is really only a prologue, but we can expect some pretty great things to come in the future. The comparison/homage fits beautifully as well. In many ways there are strong parallels between the war in Halo and World War II. Two entire civilizations (Axis and Allies, Humans and Covenant) are at war. Not all Nazis agreed with Hitler just as not all of the Covenant agreed with their leadership. The parallels continue except for the Flood. It's hard to draw a strong parallel to the real world with them unless we decide to call them zombie nazis.
While we ponder that, however, we can at least enjoy the following fan film and hope to see more in the future!
